Disc Golf in the park is not a walk in the park
Don’t let the peaceful setting fool you. There is a lot of walking and frustration at times when it comes to learning how to play disc golf well. Let’s just say our learning experience started off with a short cut. Clutch, Vanna, and friends decided to skip to the 3rd hole of the course at Clinton Hills Conservation area. We thought we were at the first hole because we saw a sign for a hole. Turns out it was not one. So we played on from that hole the wrong way. It was nice that Clinton Hills has updated signs for the disc golf course.
We were on our way to the 4th hole when a young gentleman approached our group. I personally thought he was going to ask to play through. Nope! He asked to play with us. Us!? You know we kind of suck right……..He was cool with it and was just looking for a group to play with. We fit the bill because we were older (40’s and up) he was 27. Found out it was less drama and not as competitive as someone in his group or younger.
This was a fair assessment because later in the course we saw someone in their early 20’s just look so upset and frustrated with his play on the course. Our group was out there for the sun and exercise. “Brenen” was cool with how terrible our play was as a group but we made up for it with constant jokes, providing information about the area, and things to do that were not so “social media” heavy. In the end we ended up losing 2 discs on our end and “Brenen” lost one on the last hole.
If you have not tried disc golf……..do it! Buy a cheap set of second hand discs or on some budget retailer. Don’t spend the money on high quality disc if you have a high chance of losing them in the trees or water hazards. Cool tip if you write your name and number on your disc, you might get a random call one day from someone telling you they found your disc and trying to return it.
